An expanded meeting of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) has been held.
The event was attended by ANAS President, Academician Isa Habibbayli, members of the Presidium, heads of departments of the Presidium’s Office, and other relevant officials.
Opening the meeting, Academician Isa Habibbayli delivered introductory remarks and provided information about the agenda.
The first item discussed at the meeting concerned the presentation of state awards to ANAS employees who were honored under the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Awarding Individuals for Their Contributions to the Development of Science in Azerbaijan,” dated November 5, 2025.
Speaking on the matter, Academician Isa Habibbayli stated that this Decree of the Head of State was one of the significant events in the Academy’s 80-year history. He noted that earlier, under a relevant Presidential Decree, ANAS employees were among those most widely awarded the “Heydar Aliyev’s 100th Anniversary (1923–2023)” jubilee medal. Academician Isa Habibbayli emphasized that this was a clear expression of President Ilham Aliyev’s high appreciation and esteem for Azerbaijani science, scholars, intellectuals, and for the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. He added that the Presidential Decree dated March 18, 2025, “On the Celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences,” was also one of the most important milestones in the Academy’s history. He stressed that the Decree highlighted the Academy’s distinguished historical path, acknowledged it at the highest level, provided support for future activities, and outlined new responsibilities.
“President Ilham Aliyev’s participation in the 80th anniversary ceremony of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, along with his programmatic and profound speech, serves as a roadmap for the future work of the Academy and our scholars. The President’s remarks in his jubilee address regarding cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies—key challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution—will form the basis of our future activities. As the Academy and as Azerbaijani scholars, our primary duty is the high-level implementation of the tasks arising from the President’s speech,” Academician Isa Habibbayli said.
Academician Isa Habibbayli further noted that, in response to the President’s instructions on preserving the purity of the Azerbaijani language and rewriting the history of Azerbaijan and its statehood, immediate meetings were held at the Presidium with linguists and historians, proposals were submitted, tasks were assigned to the Academy’s scientific institutions and organizations, and scholars published articles in the media. He added that ANAS’s unified Action Plan will be approved in the coming days.
Concluding his remarks, Academician Isa Habibbayli stated that Azerbaijani scholars and intellectuals support and approve the successful domestic and foreign policy of the Head of State, and will continue to stand firmly behind President Ilham Aliyev, contributing to the advancement of independent Azerbaijan.
Following this, awards were presented to recipients honored under the Presidential Decree “On Awarding Individuals for Their Contributions to the Development of Science in Azerbaijan,” dated November 5, 2025. The awardees expressed their gratitude to the Head of State for his attention and appreciation toward Azerbaijani science and scholars, and stated that they would continue to work tirelessly to fulfill the tasks assigned to them.
The meeting also approved ANAS’s Action Plan related to the implementation of the Presidential Decree “On the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the First Turkological Congress,” dated October 22, 2025.
Additionally, it was decided to hold an international scientific conference titled “Mathematical Harmony of Millennia: Global Dialogue,” dedicated to the 1,800th anniversary of the world-renowned and prominent Chinese scholar Liu Hui.
A decision was also adopted regarding the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Doctor of Biological Sciences Suleyman Allahverdiyev.
Delivering the concluding speech, Academician Isa Habibbayli stated that over the past three years, significant steps have been taken at the Academy toward renewal and reform while preserving its historic scientific traditions. He noted that numerous structural reforms had been carried out in response to modern challenges, new departments had been established in line with the tasks set by President Ilham Aliyev and the interests of the state, substantial work had been done in the field of artificial intelligence, and that this stage was regarded as a period of Renewal and Reform in the Academy’s history. Academician Isa Habibbayli emphasized that this stage was now coming to an end and that a new phase was beginning in ANAS’s history. He added that new responsibilities, tasks, and state priorities now lay ahead, and their successful implementation, along with the dignified representation of Azerbaijan in the global scientific community, was the duty of the country’s scholars and would guide future activities.
