Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbayli, met with Ruan Cao, Director of the China Association for Science and Technology, and the accompanying delegation visiting Azerbaijan to attend an event marking the 1,800th anniversary of prominent Chinese mathematician Liu Hui.

Speaking at the meeting held at the Presidium of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbayli noted that relations between the two countries have in recent years risen to the level of strategic partnership, adding that Azerbaijan supports China’s “Belt and Road” initiative.

Academician Habibbayli stated that cooperation between academic and higher education institutions of Azerbaijan and China has significantly expanded in recent years, highlighting close partnerships between the National Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Hebei Academy of Social Sciences, Hong Kong Korea Academy, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Hebei Normal University. He also emphasized that a doctoral dissertation on Chinese archetypes had recently been defended by a PhD candidate at the Center for Chinese Studies of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature. In addition, he briefed the guests on the preparation of a compilation of Azerbaijani poets’ works dedicated to China, currently being prepared for publication at the Institute of Literature.

Academician Habibbayli further noted that a large delegation from China visited Azerbaijan last month to take part in the 80th anniversary assembly of ANAS, during which productive meetings were held with the participating scholars.

Informing the guests about recent research conducted at the Academy, Academician Habibbayli said that the application of artificial intelligence and the advancement of digital development in the humanities and social sciences are among the institution’s key priorities.

The ANAS president also stated that cooperation with the China Association for Science and Technology would be beneficial and presented his proposals for future partnership.

Speaking next, Ruan Cao, Director of the China Association for Science and Technology, expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality. Providing information about the organization he leads, Ruan Cao stated their interest in cooperation with ANAS and Azerbaijani scholars in various fields and outlined their proposals. He expressed appreciation to Azerbaijan for its support of the anniversary events dedicated to world-renowned mathematician Liu Hui, noting that commemorations had also been held in Paris and several other cities.

Following the speeches, the parties exchanged gifts and took commemorative photos.

At the end of the visit, the guests toured the building of the ANAS Presidium.
