Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On May 16, main building of ANAS hosted the event organized by Institute of Oriental Studies and dedicated to the 110th anniversary of orientalist-scientist, Academician Abdulkarim Alizadeh.

Director of the Institute corresponding member of ANAS Govhar Bakhshaliyeva made speech on academician’s merits in development of oriental studies science of Azerbaijan. She stated that, A.Alizadeh had exceptional services in establishment of the Institute of Oriental Studies in Azerbaijan. Being the first director of the institute and training notable scientists in this field, academician is considered a founder of textology in our country.

Abdulkarim Alizadeh was a researcher of basically the history of Seljuk Turks and Mongols in Azerbaijan and neighbor Nearest Eastern countries. Academician developed main scientific-critical texts of works by Nizami Ganjavi’ "Sirler khazinasi”, Rashidaddin “Jami at-tavarikh”, and Mahammad Ibn Hindushah Nakhchivani “Dastur al-katib fi teyin al-maratib”. His tireless creativity always highly appreciated by the government and he deserved to a numerous state prizes and the title of Honored Scientific Figure. Scientist’s works have been translated into world’s various languages, she noted.

At the event Vice-President of ANAS Academician Isa Habibbeyli drew attention to the regular conduction of events dedicated to the notable scientists and luminaries’ anniversaries in ANAS. He stressed out that, conduction of such kind of events is of great importance in terms of promoting and delivering life and creativity of notable scientists to the further generations.

It was noted that, A.Alizadeh laid the foundation of systematic scientific research in modern history study, and played peerless role in development of medieval history study of Azerbaijan.

“Academician Abdulkarim Alizadeh and Azerbaijan oriental study”, “Academician Abdulkarim Alizadeh as a scientist-textologist” and “Academician Abdulkarim Alizadeh as he is” lectures were listened at the event.
