Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Academician Isa Habibbeyli, met with a delegation of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) visiting Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the meeting held at the Presidium of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that cooperation between Azerbaijan and China has risen to the level of strategic partnership in recent years and that relations in the field of science, as in all other areas, have been developing rapidly. Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that the Presidium of ANAS, as well as the Academy’s research institutions, maintain close cooperation with a number of scientific institutions and higher education institutions in China.

The President of ANAS noted that the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation signed with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 2012 have already been implemented and that new areas of bilateral cooperation between the institutions have emerged. Academician Isa Habibbeyli stated that there is a need to update the memorandum of cooperation between ANAS and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in line with the challenges of the modern era. Noting that the China Studies Center operates at the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature of ANAS and that a dissertation entitled “Archetypes and Images of Chinese Origin in Azerbaijani Literature” has been defended, Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized that the Institute of Literature has collected works written by Chinese poets and writers about Azerbaijan from the Soviet period to the present day, and that these works are now being prepared for publication.

Speaking at the meeting, Yang Jin, Deputy Secretary-General of the Research Center for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization at the Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, also noted the rapid development of Azerbaijan-China cooperation and stated that significant scientific results had been achieved through joint cooperation in the field of science. He noted that he had first visited Azerbaijan in 2012 and, emphasizing that he had witnessed considerable development since then, said that he had written an extensive book about Azerbaijan, which also covers scientific relations. Yang Jin stated that he would convey the proposals of President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, to the President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

During the meeting, an exchange of views was held on issues of bilateral scientific cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged books and commemorative gifts.

The meeting was also attended by Zhou Luping and Lin Hexi, master’s students at the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
