Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Famous scientist in the field of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics, Chevalier of the Order "Shohrat", corresponding member of ANAS Rashid Javanshir is 65 on July 17.

Rashid Javanshir was born in 1951 in Baku. In 1973 he graduated from the specialty "Geophysics engineer" of Azerbaijan Oil and Chemistry Institute (present Azerbaijan State University of Oil Industry).

In 1978 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Geology and Mineralogy, in 1988 - doctor of geological-mineralogical sciences, in 1992 - the title of professor, and in 2001 was elected a corresponding member of ANAS.

In 1974-1995 has gone from chief engineer to the Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Deep oil and Gas Fields of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

Since 1995 he works in one of the largest oil companies - BP. In 2009-2011 he was the president of BP-Azerbaijan, and in 2011-2012 - BP Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey._ Currently he is senior Vice-President of strategy and integration into the BP office in London.

In the field of oil and gas geology and geophysics creation of the axiomatic principles of the theory, classification and theoretical dynamic models of forming and development the geoflyuidalnykh of pressure, and also the automated complex of methods of their studying and forecasting according to geological supervision, seismic exploration, geophysical survey of wells and technological indicators of drilling and others belong to scientific achievements of R. Javanshir.

His scientific researches were widely used on oil and gas fields of Azerbaijan.

The scientist is the author more than 210 scientific works, 12 opening, 8 monographs, 2 licenses, 5 methodical benefits. Refer to its works also in the famous international journals.

Under his management was prepared 2 doctors of science and 6 PhD.

Since 1984 R.Javanshir is a member of the American society of oil geologists. In 1989-1995 he was a regional editor of the international scientific magazine "Energy Sources" (USA), in 2001-2004 and 1989-1996 – the member of an editorial board of the international scientific magazine "Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering" (Holland).

In 1985 he was awarded the Prize named after Academician I.M.Gubkin, in 2011 - the Order "Shohrat" Republic of Azerbaijan.
