The oldest temple of the Caucasus found in Jalilabad

The ancient religious temple of Caucasus has been found in Polutepe ancient settlement, located in the village of Gullutapa, Jalilabad region, reported head of the Mugan-Neolithic expedition of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, Dr. History Tufan Akhundov.

He said that during excavations a large number of ornamental, household findings, as well as tools have been found from different cultural layers dated back Neolithic era.

During recent excavations, the archaeologists have discovered an ancient religious temple, not only come across in Azerbaijan, but also the first time in the Caucasus.

A large pitcher locates in a deep hole in the center of the ancient temple. The pitcher was filled with ashes.

According to archaeologists, remains of ashes are the remnants of the fire, which had used during religious rites.

While excavations, in addition to the temple were found two graves in the area.
