Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On January 6, a notable scientist in the spheres of geomechanics, geophysics, geology, tektonophysics, geodynamics, mining mechanics, deformable body mechanics, applied mathematics, chief of Tektonophysics and geomechanics department of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics – Academician Hatam Guliyev is 70 years old.

Hatam Hidayat oghlu Guliyev was born in 1947 on January 6 in Fuzuli region. He graduated from mechanics-mathematics faculty of Azerbaijan State University in “Mechanics” specialty.

Scientist gained PhD degree in Physics-math in 1972, while doctoral degree in physics-math in 1981, as well as professor title in 1986. In 2001, he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS, an active member of ANAS in 2014.

In the years of 1969-1973 he was a junior researcher at the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, in 1973-1979 a senior researcher at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Kiev, Ukraine, in 1979-1990 a senior researcher at ANAS IMM, later a chief of the Spill mechanics department, in 1990-2003 a chief department of Geodynamics and rock mechanics at the Institute of Deep oil and gas fields problems. Since 2003, he is a head of the Department of Tectonophysics and geomechanics at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics. H.Guliyev has been a deputy secretary of Division of Earth Sciences and a deputy chief editor of ANAS "News" (Earth sciences) journal in 2001-2003.

His main scientific results consist of creation of instability concept of evolution of the Earth and non-classical linearized approach to study this evolution; theoretical basis of mathematical-geodynamic model of development of internal structures of the Earth; mechanisms of formation of folding and fractures and their non-classical three-dimensional theory; exact solution of complete non-linear task of distribution of medium density in the Earth's interior and proof of instability of this solution for different rocks; solving of problem of sequence of realization of deformation process and phase transitions depending on density; Development of differential geomechanical criteria of distribution of elastic and physical parameters on depth of the internal structures of the Earth; evidence of violations of these criteria in the solid core of the Earth; for the purpose of interpreting the data of observations on selfoscillations of the Earth, the solution of problem of selfoscillations of the three-layered sphere, elastic parameters which are not uniform in depth; nonlinear theories of multi-componential and three-dimensional seismic waves; creation of non-classical theoretical base model of seismicity; instability concept of destruction of rocks of the Earth's interior; three-dimensional mathematical theory of loss of stability of equilibrium state in vicinities of wells, separate parts and internal structures of geological section; solution of nonlinear tasks on dynamics, mechanics of destruction, strength and stability of deformed solid bodies; development of paradigm of eternal cycle of matter; new definitions of matter concept, space and time; introduction of new concepts of free states and information form of matter into science; clarification of mechanism of unidirectionality of time flow and a number of important works on other scientific directions.

Academician is an author of 5 monographs, 267 scientific articles (139 abroad), and 2 inventions. His works have been cited on the well-known international journals. He supervised for 5 Doctors o Sciences and 21 PhDs.

By Guliyev's leadership and with his direct participation, at the request of world's leading oil companies (AMOCO, BP, CHEVRON), and a number of national organizations (SOCAR, Republican Seismological Survey Center, SHIRVAN OIL, ANSHAD PETROL) have been carried out vital scientific and technological projects.

Geomechanic-scientist is the member of Defense Council of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS, member of central committee of SOCAR on "Oil-gas and condensate reserves" and "Development of oil-gas and gas condensate fields", member of the European Union on Geological Sciences, . member of the National Committee of Azerbaijani Geologists, member of the National Committee of Azerbaijani Geophysicists, member of the Board of Experts of The Science Foundation of SOCAR, member of the international editorial board of the journal “Geinformatics”, member of the editorial board of "Vestnik" journal of Kiev National University named after T. Shevchenko, Geology Series, Ukraine, Kiev, member of the editorial board of journal “News, Series of Earth Sciences” of ANAS, member of the editorial board of journal “Geophysical news” and “Mechanics”, Bonafide Member of the Oxford Academic Union.

For his monograph devoted to the stability of the three-dimensional mathematical theory of wells, scientist was awarded the silver medal in exhibition in the former Soviet Union in 1988. He was honored the Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
