Laureates of the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for 2018 have been announced In Stockholm.

American scientist James P.Allison and Japanese scientist Tasuku Honjo for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation this was announced by members of the Nobel Academy at a special event.

According to members of the academy, James P.Allison studied protein, which functions as a brake on the immune system. He realized the potential of releasing brakes and unleashing immune cells to attack tumors. He developed this concept in a new approach to patient treatment.

In turn, the Japanese scientist Tasuku Honjo discovered a protein on immune cells and revealed that he also acts as a brake, but with a different mechanism of action. "Therapy based on its discovery has proven to be amazingly effective in the fight against cancer" said researchers of the Nobel Academy.
