Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) held an international scientific conference devoted to the 200th anniversary of the Institute of Oriental Studies on October 29-30, in Moscow.

Director of ANAS Institute of Oriental Studies, academician Bakhshaliyeva Govhar presented our country at the forum.

After the official opening, the conference continued its work on the sessions:“Russia and the East: participation in the fate”, “Oriental Studies Today: Ways for the Future”, “East in World Politics: New Power”, “Eastern Economy: Contrasts of Development”, “East- West: to the unity of human civilization".

Academician Bakhshaliyeva Govhar was appointed as a session moderator:“East-West: towards the unity of human civilization”.

At the beginning, Bakhshaliyeva Govhar congratulated the leadership and staff of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences with a significant event.

She said that, Azerbaijan has a rich heritage, which unites Eastern and Western cultures, and noted that Baku hosts humanitarian forums and discussions, which has a positive impact on intercultural exchanges. She noted that, a few days ago the VI Baku International Humanitarian Forum was organized in Azerbaijan, which was attended by representatives of many countries of the world.

Influence of the Greek culture on east cultures in the period of Hellenism is indisputable, cultural influence in the Middle Ages has still been oriented from the East on the West. After crash of the Greek-Roman civilization as a result of barbaric attacks, the Arab-Iranian culture was an intermediary between the ancient and European culture of Renaissance.

It has been noted that, medieval civilizations have arisen in the countries of the Middle East, East Asia, Western Asia, Byzantium and Western Europe. The most interesting of them are the Andalusian literature which, according to experts, is result of interaction and interferences of the Arab and Spanish literature.

The academician Bakhshaliyeva Govhar has told that, in the 20th century Goethe has submitted the concept of universal literature, having got acquainted with the most striking examples of ancient, English, French, Spanish, Persian, Indian and Chinese literature. But then this concept has been doomed to be the European bias. Only from the second half of the 19th century, the Arab countries have begun to react to the European cultural influences actively.

In conclusion, were delivered reports, and were held discussions on various topics.
