Nakhchivan Division discussed the results of archeological expeditions

ANAS Nakhchivan Division has held an event dedicated to the results of archaeological researches carried out by domestic and international expeditions in a current year.

Chairman of the Division, academician Ismayil Hajiyev spoke of wide scaled archaeological excavations held in Nakhchivan. As in every year, international and republic archeological expeditions made researches in various areas of the territory, he noted.

Then, head of the Department of Ancient Archeology of the Institute of History, Ethnogarphy and Archeology, head of the Nakhchivan City Archeological Expedition, corresponding member of ANAS Veli Bakhshaliyev stated that, since May, domestic archeologists together with international expedition members of Azerbaijan-USA, Azerbaijan-France in Nakhchivantepe, Uchan Aghil settlements, and in the first Kultepe and Ovchulartepesi. During the study, hearths, ceramic samples, numerous stones, obsidian and building remains were found in the area, he noted.

It was noted that, members of the international expedition conducted exploratory investigations in various parts of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Sharur, Ordubad, Babak, Shahbuz, Kangarli region.

Vali Bakhshaliyev noted that, members of the international Azerbaijani-French archaeological expedition were also involved in the study of archeological material discovered in the Ovchulartapa and I Kultapa settlements.

Studies have revealed that, Kultapa is the oldest Neolithic settlement in the South Caucasus: "An exhibition devoted to the 10th anniversary of the Azerbaijani-French archaeological collaboration was opened in 2018, in Baku and the results of the expeditions were demonstrated at that exhibition".

V.Bakhshaliyev said that, books and monographs were published on the results of the archaeological expedition and various articles were published by international journals.

In addition, at the international conference in France 7 reports were delivered on archaeological research conducted in Nakhchivan.

Head of the Azerbaijan-France International Archaeological Expedition Katherine Marro and member of the expedition, employee of the Division of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archeology Kamran Mehbaliyev said that, the excavations in the area are important for Azerbaijani archeology.
