Professor Luciano Telesca, Head of the Department of Earth Sciences and Environment of the Institute for Environmental Analysis of the CNR, visited Baku on the basis of the agreement on scientific cooperation between ANAS and the National Research Council of Italy (CNR).

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the results of the “Research of Seismic Effects and Seismic Risk Assessment in Mingachevir (Azerbaijan) Water Reservoir” project, as well as to exchange views on the topic of the competition and scientific directions, covering the years 2020-2021 within the framework of the ANAS-CNR cooperation.

Prof. Luciano Teleska, the Scientific Advisor to the Project Director, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Earth Sciences, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov, Director of Republican Seismic Survey Center, Corresponding Member of ANAS Gurban Yetirmishli, Head of Seismology and Seismic Hazard Department of Geology and Geophysics Institute, Doctor of Geological Sciences, Associate Professor Gulam Babayev, Leading researcher of Modern Geodynamics and Space Geodesy Department, Ph.D. in Geology and Mineralogy, Associate Professor Rafig Safarov and Head of Dynamics Department of RSSC Earthquake Diversion Department, PhD in Geology and Mineralogy Sabina Kazimova attended the meeting.

During the discussions, it was noted that new and important results were achieved. As a result of the researches, it became clear that Mingachevir water reservoir has changed its water level and has annual periodicity in the distribution of weak earthquakes.

During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to the project and decided to prepare a new article based on the received information.
