Monuments belonging to antic and initial medieval ages founded from Nargizava necropolis

Nargizava necropolis led by corresponding member of ANAS Veli Aliyev has carried out archaeological excavation on the territory of Yasamal ravine in the Gegeli village of Aghsu region, August-September 2019.

Although there were came across cracks of cup, occasional clay and limestone stones in the clay layer, no building remains were found. Discovered pottery pieces were taken for research.

In addition, 250 meters south of the site, the exploration was continued in the second excavation site, where the hearth and baked bricks were found.

During the expedition, the two-kilometer part of the valley, formed by the Yasamal hollow, was carefully considered. During the observation, a statue of a pottery woman was found on the wall, which was washed away by the flood waters. Despite the appearance of other antique monuments, this kind of pottery sculpture was first encountered in Nargizava.

In a kilometer south of the excavation site on the western wall of the Yasamal depression were found the remains of the settlement. Inside the building, the purpose of which is unknown were found the remains of the hearth.

In the north of the ancient settlement, a necropolis of cemeteries was also discovered. Although the grave jug discovered two meters below the surface of the earth was broken under the weight of the earth, the grave accessories remained intact. A short knife, beads, bowls and a jug were found in the grave.

Preliminary studies show that, the habitat in this area dates back to the ancient and early Middle Ages.
