Report on the project "Classification of saline soils based on space images"

Rovshan Rustamov, Azercosmos deputy chairman, Agil Ahmadov, head of the “Image Processing” Group, Mehman Rzayev, PhD in agriculture, Nail Mardanov, head of Commerce Department, AND Bahlul Salmanov, sector chief of Agency of Agrarian Services under Ministry of Agriculture were at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry.

At the meeting with the director of the Institute, corresponding member of ANAS Alovsat Guliyev, it was stated that the tasks envisaged in the agreement signed between the two organizations were fulfilled.

Subsequently, the final report on the joint project "Classification of saline soils based on space images" was presented. The project covers the Salyan plain, 22-25 meters below sea level, including the Salyan and Neftchala regions.

In accordance with the technical specifications of the project, the spectral diversity of cosmic images was determined and the soil samples were collected through distance monitoring of Salyan and Neftchala. The amount of Na, Mg, Ca, K ions in soil samples was determined using the Thermo Scientific ICAP 7200 ICP - OES Duo device. In the full water weight analysis, anions of carbonate, hydrocarbonate, sulfate, and chloride were defined.

As a result of laboratory tests, Azercosmos jointly with the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry conducted a pilot project for operational and accurate research. After the acquisition of four different Azersky satellite images for the project, its processing phase was completed.
