The stage of accepting proposals for the competition “Give a name to the BA100 exoplanets” organized in Azerbaijan on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the International Astronomical Union has finished.

Before the last registration date of the contest, which aroused great interest in the country, the participants proposed more than a thousand names, including historical figures, geographical names, architectural monuments and various other stylistic themes.

Namik Jalilov, Chairman of the National Committee for the “Give a name to BAİ100 exoplanets” competition, said that, the acceptance of proposals has already been suspended. All proposals will be evaluated until October 25, and the top 10 proposals will be submitted to a universal vote.

As a result, three proposals selected by the company will be sent to the International Astronomical Union, which is the initiator of this competition. After a final evaluation, the Board of the International Astronomical Union will announce the results in December 2019.

At the voting stage, a link for public voting online will be posted on the website of the Astronomical Coordination Bureau of the IAU.
