Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On January 5, a famous physicist with Order of Shohrat, laureate of the State Prize, deputy director of science at the Institute of Physics, academician Javad Abdinov turns 80 years old.

Javad Abdinov was born on January 5, 1940 in Behrud village of Ordubad district. He graduated from high school in 1956 and in 1961 graduated from the Faculty of Physics of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. The scientist was a post-graduate student at the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan in 1961-1964, worked as a senior researcher in 1964-1973, head of department at the Scientific Research Institute of Photoelectronics  in 1973-2002. In 1998-2002 he was director of the Institute of Photoelectronics. J.Abdinov has been working at the Institute of Physics since 2002 as head of laboratory, since 2009 as deputy director  of science.

In 1966 he defended his doctoral thesis on "The study of the effects of oxygen on high-purity solid and liquid selenium physical properties", and doctoral thesis in 1976 on "Structure and physical properties of various modifications of selenium". In 2007 he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS, and in 2014 an active member of ANAS.

He is the author of 2 monographs, more than 300 articles and 30 inventions. Under his scientific supervision 4 doctors and 24 doctors of philosophy were trained.

In 1971 he was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Award of the Azerbaijan SSR for his achievements in the study of the physical properties of selenium semiconductors, and in 1982 the winner of the State Prize of the Azerbaijan SSR for the development of scientific bases of technology and design of electronic devices. He was also awarded the Order of Shohrat in 2015 for his merits in Azerbaijan sience on the occasion of 70th anniversary of ANAS.
