The first Azerbaijani scientist who received the title of professor in Germany

Parvana Hajiyeva, who worked for a long time as a researcher at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of ANAS, became the first Azerbaijani to receive the title of professor among our compatriots working in Germany. She is a professor of biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hamburg, Germany, and a member of the German expert group on mitochondrial diseases and the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Parvana Hajiyeva educated in medical biology at Baku State University in 1991-1996. The scientist, who began her career as a researcher at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of ANAS, worked on research projects under the supervision of Professor Ralphrid Hasanov. In 1998, she entered doctoral studies at the Center for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance in Florence, Italy.

In 2000, she successfully defended her thesis on "Structural and dynamic properties of natural and modified cytochromes" at the University of Florence and received a doctorate in chemistry. She began her career in 2001 as a researcher at the Center for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Florence.

Continuing studies at the Institute of Psychiatry of the Max Planck Research Society in Munich in 2001-2002, P. Hajiyeva was engaged in research on cellular changes in the aging process. The main focus of her research is the aging process of neurons in the nervous system.

In 2002, P.Hajiyeva began her activities as a researcher at the Institute of Physiological Chemistry of the Medical University of Mainz in German, and in 2006 she created a working group at the Institute of Pathobiochemistry called "Oxidative stress, antioxidants and mitophagy." In her team, she worked on a thorough study of existing problems in the field of biochemistry, and also coordinated various research projects.

In 2016, she defended her thesis at the Medical University of Mine and was awarded the title “venia legendi” in the field of biochemistry. P. Gadzhieva received the title of professor of biochemistry at the medical faculty of the same university and created a research group on cell adaptation and metabolism.

P.Hajiyeva is currently a reviewer of various international medical journals. In addition to her scientific work, she is fluent in English, German, Italian and Russian and is known as a polyglot.
