The chairman of ANAS Free Trade Union, Professor Habil Gurbanov is 65 years old.

Habil Gurbanov was born on March 14, 1955 in Aghdam. He finished from secondary school in 1971 and graduated from Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute in 1975 with honors and worked as a junior researcher at ANAS.

In different years, he worked in state bodies such as the Komsomol Committee of the Nasimi District of Baku, the Baku Special Secondary School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR, and the Baku City Prosecutor's Office.

In 1988, H. Gurbanov defended his thesis on "Criminal Law" in Moscow, Russia, and earned a PhD in Law. In 1997 he defended his doctoral thesis at the Institute of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation in Moscow and obtained a diploma of the Doctor of Law of the Russian Federation. In 1998, the scientist was given the academic degree of Doctor of Law by Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and in 2010 the title of professor.

He is the author of 220 scientific articles, 12 monographs and 5 textbooks. Out of 3 are monographs and 50 scientific articles were published in reputable foreign journals. Professor had supervised 3 doctors and 10 doctors of philosophy.

In 2010-2016 he worked as the head Department of State and Law Theory, Civil law and Civil Process of the Institute of Philosophy and Law of ANAS, and in 2016 he started working as a senior research fellow at the Institute of Law and Human Rights of ANAS.

He is also known for his extensive public activities in the ANAS. In April 2009, he was elected an active member of the International Academy of Sciences of the Turkic World Studies, and in December 2009, the European Academy of Natural Sciences. He is also a member of the United Nations International Organization for Combating Drug Abuse.

Gurbanov served as the Deputy Chairman of the Free Trade Union of ANAS in February 2017, and in July 2017 as the Chairman. Since November of this year he is the chairman of ANAS Free Trade Union.

The organization provides regular medical examinations of employees of ANAS, purchase of medicines necessary for primary health care, organization of sporting events, food and agricultural fairs, provision of financial assistance to low-income workers, celebrations of employees, sanatorium or staff. Commendable activities are being carried out, such as sending children to holiday homes and their young children to summer camps.

Professor H.Gurbanov has been closely involved in the development of new laws in the country, for the first time in Azerbaijan, drafting a new Criminal Code (general unit) in 1996 and submitting it to the public.

The monograph "Society and Socio-Legal Problems", which was published for Habil Gurbanov’s merits in development of juridical science in Azerbaijan, was deserved to the Gold Medal as the best research work.
