Archaeological excavations at the Giziltepe monument have yielded results

Imishli archeological expedition led by senior researcher of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, PhD in History Mikayil Mustafayev conducted archeological research at the Giziltepe monument located in Gizilkend.

The head of the expedition said that as a result of the research, it was determined that the Giziltepe monument was a fortress of a defensive nature and seriously protected. He noted that Giziltepe, consisting of two parts and about 17 meters high, covers an area of more than 5 hectares. The castle is completely surrounded by a pool of water. During the excavations, a 23-meter-long and 1-meter-wide trench was dug at the monument to study stratigraphy. The plan of the layers was drawn from every 2 meters of depth.

According to him, during the archeological excavations, a 55-cm-wide wall made of raw bricks in the southern part of the site, a wall made of raw bricks in the western direction, and a tandir sphere in good condition were found.

“Giziltepe monument is a complex settlement and one of the most unique monuments recently discovered as a result of archeological excavations. Regular excavations are very important from a scientific point of view”, Mustafayev said.
