Azerbaijani archaeologist speaks at a video conference held in Kazakhstan

On the initiative of S.Amanzholov East Kazakhstan State University, a videoconference “The State Program of Ruhani Zhanguru (Spiritual Revival) as a Factor in the Development of Archeology of Kazakhstan” was held. The event was attended by the head Department of Archeology of the Antique Period of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, PhD in History Zaur Hasanov.

At a video conference Z. Hasanov delivered a lecture on “Joint Azerbaijani-Kazakh archaeological research in 2017-2019.” In his speech, an Azerbaijani scientist spoke about the prospects of joint archaeological research.

Recall that since 2017 Zaur Hasanov took part in archaeological excavations that were carried out at the monument to Berel (Kazakhstan Altai) and Eleke-Sazi (Tarbagatai). During the excavations, under the guidance of Professor Zainolla Samashev, the barrow monuments of the Scythian-Saka period were studied. In 2019, the Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Archaeological Expedition was created under the general leadership of Zaur Hasanov and Zainolla Samashev. Archaeological research was carried out on the monument of the ancient period Tepebashi (Sheki). Also, a monument of the ancient period Dohun, located in the village of Kish (Sheki), was involved in archaeological exploration. It was planned to continue joint research in 2020.

Then, a famous Kazakh archaeologist, corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute Zaynolla Samashev delivered a lecture on archaeological research conducted on the mounds of Berel and Eleke-Sazi.

These studies are carried out as part of the State program "Spiritual Revival." As a result of archaeological excavations on burial sites, male and female burials were found. Clothing, weapons and horse ornaments found in the burials and related to the Scythian-Saka period were trimmed with gold. Finds of this type in Kazakhstan were called “Altin Adam” (“Golden Man”). In addition, artificial horns attached to the heads of horses were discovered in several mounds of the Berel monument. The above mentioned monuments have already become the national symbols of Kazakhstan. The Berel monument is included in the route of the state tourism program.

At the event, Professor of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Abdesh Toleubaev made speech about archaeological research conducted on the mounds of the Early Iron Age of Shilikti.

Other archaeologists from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan also spoke at the videoconference to talk about their research.
