Corresponding member of ANAS Veli Bakhshaliyev: “The book “Rock paintings of Gemigaya” is a fundamental and valuable scientific source”

Like our other historical monuments in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the monuments of Gemigaya are under state care.

This was announced by the head of the department of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archeology of the Nakhchivan Division, corresponding member of ANAS Veli Bakhshaliyev. According to him, in accordance with the Order of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic “On the study of the Gemigaya monument in the Ordubad region” dated April 26, 2001, a scientific expedition was organized consisting of employees of the Nakhchivan Division and the Nakhchivan State University, monuments around Gamigaya and rock paintings were recorded drawings of gemigaya. In 2001-2005, international and local expeditions with the participation of Azerbaijani and foreign scientists worked here.

V. Bakhshaliyev said that for a more detailed study of the drawings of Gemigaya in August 2016, the expedition "Gemigaya" was created, consisting of specialists from the Nakhchivan Division of ANAS and the Ministry of Culture of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The expedition visited 136 hectares of territory where rock paintings were recorded, and registered 7,477 drawings on 2040 stones. As a result of this study, a fundamental book was published in June 2020, entitled "Rock paintings of Gemigaya."

V. Bakhshaliyev said that the book, intended for researchers and the general public, will become a fundamental, valuable scientific source for studying the cave paintings of Gemigaya.
