By the decision of the Presidium of ANAS, the 70th anniversary of the Institute of Manuscripts named after Muhammad Fuzuli  of ANAS will be celebrated in October 2020.

Founded in 1950 on the basis of the Manuscripts Department of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami, the institute has rendered unparalleled services in the field of collection, protection, research and preparation for publication of written monuments. One of the richest book treasures in the world, this scientific institution preserves unique manuscript collections in Azerbaijani, Turkish, Arabic, Persian and other languages ​​covering various fields.

Surah "An-Nisa" of Holy Qur'an belonging to a ninth-century written on leather, is the oldest surviving manuscript preserved at the institute. There are also personal documents, old printed books, microfilms, photographs, etc. of prominent figures of science and literature of Azerbaijan who lived in the XIX-XX centuries. materials are stored. The total number of manuscripts, documents, archival materials, old printed books and samples of the press kept in the fund of the enterprise is more than 40,000.

In 2005 and 2017, 4 unique manuscripts preserved at the institute were included in the register of the UNESCO World Memory Program.
