French and Australian experts have seen signs of a new continent on Earth. Its origin is in the Indian Ocean.
Previously, it was believed that new continents could only be seen on land and ocean borders. Continental rocks are very coarse, oceanic rocks are soft and can be folded. The latter complicates the formation of worldly matter.
Scientists now see that continents can form on oceanic plateaus. Magma deposits have been discovered in the Indian Ocean after a volcanic eruption. The composition of the rocks is similar to the composition of the continent. This means that dry soils may soon form here.
Now the future continent is replaced by the Kerguelen Islands. The softest rocks in the ocean can expand it.
