International events will be held as part of World Quantum Day

The World Quantum Day Network was established voluntarily by researchers from 67 countries active in quantum physics and related fields, and its main goal is to ensure that April 14 is officially declared World Quantum Day by the United Nations each year. The Institute of Physics of ANAS is also an active participant of the mentioned network.

During the day on April 14, the network has prepared events that will attract the attention of the whole world online. The Institute of Physics of ANAS invites our compatriots who are interested in quantum physics, working in this field or wanting to acquire new information and knowledge to take an active part in some of the following events:

Date: April 14, 2021, at 12:00 Baku time

Quantum Mechanics in Malta

Address: University of Malta

Program: The Department of Physics at the University of Malta joins in celebrating World Quantum Day in 2021, and its researchers talk about their future research and why the Planck constant is so important to everyone.

10:00 - André Xuereb (Head of Physics): Fun and Adventures in the Quantum World

10:10 - Tony Apollaro (Head Teacher): Portrait of Planck's constant

10:20 - Karl Pelka (PhD student): What do light quanta know about numbers?

10:30 - Mirko Consiglio (PhD student): The road to quantum supremacy

ETH Zurich Quantum Technologies: Our Journey

Practice and theory with ETH Zurich professors Yiven Chu and Renato Renner

Address: Zurich ETH Quantum Center

Summary: The ETH Quantum Center (qc.ethz.ch) in Zurich, Switzerland invites you to an interview with two ETH professors, Yiven Chu and Renato Renner, by PhD student Chiara Decaroli. They will share their stories with everyone, tell us about the day-to-day work of a quantum physics researcher, and advise young students on how to succeed in this field.

From Einstein to Wheeler: the wave-particle dualism of a single photo

Prof. Alain Aspect, Institute of Optics, University of Paris-Saclay

Address: World Quantum Day YouTube channel

Summary: The wave-particle dualism, first proposed by Einstein in relation to light and later developed by Louis de Broglie for the state of other material particles, is a basic concept of quantum physics. It allows us to demonstrate one of the strangest properties of the quantum world when applied to a single particle. The speech will present wave-particle dualism as a result of real experiments based on a single photon source, one of the important devices for the development of quantum technologies.

Colloquium for researchers - Quantum Informatics

Raman Research Institute, India

Charles H. Bennett, IBM Research, New York

Participate online

Identifier: 874 2968 3574

Code: 618012

Summary: The speeches will discuss a very unique and special correlation, known mainly as entanglement, which complements the classical information. Interestingly, the confusion allows us to understand the source of randomness, why the future is more uncertain than the past, and, paradoxically, the macroscopic world behaves in a classical way and therefore the laws of quantum physics remain undiscovered until the 20th century. In the 21st century, ideas about quantum information provide insight into the physics of black holes and the formation of time and space.

The mentioned events will be delivered live to the employees on April 14, 2021 at the Institute of Physics of ANAS.
