Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Prominent scientist, director of the Institute of Folklore, corresponding member Mukhtar Imanov Kazim oglu is 60 years old on May 28.

Mukhtar Imanov was born in 1955 in Ahura village of Sharur region, Nakhichevan ASSR in the family of intellectual.

In 1972 he graduated from secondary school in the village of Ahura.

In 1977 graduated from Faculty of Philology of Azerbaijan State University named after S.M.Kirov. In 1983 he graduated from post-graduate study of ANAS Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi.

In 1984 defended PhD thesis.

In 2007 he defended his doctoral thesis on "Genesis and the poetics of laughter in the Azerbaijan national folklore".

From 1977 to 1980 Mukhtar Imanov worked as a literature teacher in a secondary school of the village Hamzali of Sharur region, Nakhichevan SSR. In 1983-1992 he worked as a junior researcher, then as a scientific researcher and senior scientific researcher at the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi.

From 1992 to 2000 he was chief editor of the publishing house "Yazichi" of Azerbaijan Writers Union. From 2001 to 2011, he was the leading researcher of ANAS Institute of Folklore and in 2011 was appointed director of ANAS Institute of Folklore.

In 2012 he was elected a member of the Broadcasting Council of the Public Television of Azerbaijan. He is the author of over 115 scientific articles, more than 120 scientific publications, 7 monographs and 6 books.

Corresponding member Mukhtar Imanov brought a new look at the written literature and folklore outlooks, gave initial theoretical analysis standards for oral and written layers of literary thought.

The prominent scientist had merits in collection, compilation and publication sphere of Azerbaijan folklore.

He is project manager and co-author of “Zangezur folklore” (Anthology of Azerbaijan, 7th book) and 9 volume bulk titled as "Karabakh: folklore is also a history".

We congratulate celebrate scientist on the occasion of 60th anniversary, wish him long life, robust health and successes in development of Azerbaijan science.
