Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

Science Development Foundation and Turkey Scientific and Technological Research Council –TÜBITAK signed treaty on cooperation in the sphere of science and technology in Ankara, Turkey. With this goal delegation led by executive director of SDF Elchin Babayev visited TÜBITAK. Ceremony was attended by management and officials of TÜBITAK, including second secretary of Azerbaijan Embassy to Turkey Vasif Aliyev.

Pre-signing the treaty briefly informed about SDF and TÜBITAK. E. Babayev spoke about state care to science, education, culture, sports and art in Azerbaijan and specially highlighted President Ilham Aliyev’s attention. TÜBITAK was donated gifts portraying Azerbaijan.

Treaty conducts strengthening and promoting scientific and technological cooperation on the equality and mutual benefit by receiving significance of the science and technology, propagate and underpin collaboration of science and technology among the research institutions, bodies and universities of Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Taking into account priority targets, SDF and TÜBITAK will cooperate in natural sciences, engineering and technologies, medicine and health sciences, agricultural sciences, social and humanitarian sciences, including multidisciplinary researches and staff training.

Treaty tends to carry out joint research and development projects including academic trips, organize joint scientific assemblies, conferences, symposiums, courses, workshops, exhibitions, exchange of outputs of the research works, data and documents to be emerged within mutual scientific and technological cooperation, as well as joint usage of research aids and scientific equipment.

Parties will cooperate within the International EU Programs for research, development and innovation. Joint committee will be created due to efficient execution of the cooperation. Declaration of the first joint grant competition was agreed up to the end of year.

Within the visit, SDF delegation has been at TÜBITAK Space. Having 12 various research groups, latest technological aids, modern equipment and hi-qualified scientist and specialist staff, TÜBITAK successfully attends in the international research projects both in Turkey and in abroad.

Director of the scientific venture Dr. Lokman Kuzu provided information on the TÜBITAK Space, extend discussion of cooperation between both agencies, and including tripartite MoU among SDF, TÜBITAK Space and Azerspace OJSC was carried out. Azerbaijani guests got acquainted with divisions of TÜBITAK Space, testing and packing modules of satellites.

In the meeting held at Middle East Technical University, one of the huge and prestigious universities of the region, vice-rector prof. Volkan Atalay informed on the university, scheduled cooperation issues between both agencies, including acquaintance with university campus and Science and Technology Museum took place.

Azerbaijan delegation attended official reception organized by Azerbaijan Embassy to Turkey on the occasion of 28 May – Republic Day.
