Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On June 25, Academician with “Shorat” Order, chairman of the Committee for Economic policy of Milli Majlis Ziyad Samadzadeh is 75 years old.

Ziyad Samadzadeh was born on June 25, 1940 in Buzovna district, Baku. In 1961 graduated from Azerbaijan State University with diploma of honor. In 1962-1965, educated at postgraduate studies of USSR Academy of Sciences Intitute of Economy and defended PhD thesis at the same institute.

Z. Samadzadeh defended doctoral thesis at age of 31 in 1971 due to gaining academic title of Dr. Economy and had been one of the first scientists who had deserved to this honorary title over social sciences in the USSR.

In 1980, was elected corresponding member of ANAS, 1989 – active member of ANAS. 

In 1983-1993, had been head of the Economic Department of the Central Committee, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Soviet, First Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Planning and Economic Committee, National Coordinator for TACIS and TRACECA programs.

Scholar is the author of more than 500 papers covering urgent problems such as economic development, demography, employment, efficiency, including numerous monographs. Tens of academician’s followers efficiently operate in the country and beyond.

As chairman of Azerbaijan Economists’ Union, Vice-President of the International Union of Economists, acad. Z.Samadzadeh carries out important works. He founded “Economy” newspaper in 1999 and began its regular publication.

Z. Samadzadeh’s research object is investagtion of vital problems of the social- economic development of republic regions. Monograph on the economic and social development of Baku city has been published reliying on his studies, conducted brief recommendations and submitted to the supreme administrative bodies.

2500 pages of three volumes dubbed “Azerbaijan on the verge of XXI century” was released by scientific editorship of academician.

Deeply assimilating economic experience of world countries and promoting their progressive aspects in Azerbaijan, Z. Samadzadeh had been in many countries, including the People's Republic of China for twice, and published "World economy: China's “economic miracle” book.

In 2004, Academician’s book dubbed The stages of the great way" - "Azerbaijan’s economy in a half of century: reality and prospects" that aroused great resonance in the country and beyond its borders, was published.

We congratulate celebrate economist scientist on the occasion of 75th anniversary, wish him long life, robust health and succeses in development of Azerbaijan science.
