Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On July 19, celebrate Azerbaijan physhician, notable educator and reseracher, Academician-secretary of ANAS Department of Earth Sciences Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov was 65 years old.

Fakhraddin Gadirov was born in Sheki July 19, 1950 in a noble family. Finished Sheki city secondary school No. 10 in 1967 with a silver medal, and graduated from Azerbaijan State University (now the Baku State University) Faculty of Physics in 1972.

Gained degree of PhD in physics-mathematics in 1984, degree of doctor of geological-mineralogical sciences in 2002, and obtained the title of professor in geophysics in 2007. Elected corresponding member of ANAS in 2007, active member in 2014.

F. Gadirov began his professional career as a teacher of physics. Hired to the laboratory of Gravimeter at the Institute of Geology in 1974 (currently Institute of Geology and Geophysics), chaired for this laboratory during 1989-2003, and laboratory of Tectonics and Geodynamics in 2005-2007.

Since 2008, he is a head of the Department of Geodynamics and Seismology Section of Earth Physics, expert of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and chairman of the Geophysics seminar. Meanwhile, scientist chairs for Azerbaijan National Information Center of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) under Institute of Geology and Geophysics.

Since 2013, he is a member of the Presidium of ANAS, and academician-secretary of the Department of Earth Sciences National Academy of Sciences of ANAS.

Scientist is the author of more than 250 scientific publications, including the "Gravitational field of Azerbaijan and model of depth structure” monograph, co-author of four monographs. Supervised for 10 PhDs in Geophysics. He is a Professor at Baku State University, faculty of geology, chair of Seismology and Physics and Earth Depths.

In 2010, he was awarded with the honorary title of ANAS.

Academician F. Gadirov repeatedly delivered lectures in the international scientific conferences in the U.S. and Europe. In addition, was awarded with research grants of the Science Development Fund under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the U.S. National Science Foundation, NSF, CRDF, STCU and EAGE organizations.
