Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On October 25, 2015, National Museum of Azerbaijan History of ANAS will celebrate 95th anniversary. First steps of the museum were put as "Training museum of Native Land", then it has renamed to “Istiglal” as a successor of “Istiglal” museum”, which had opened on the occasion of anniversary of the Parliament of the People Republic of Azerbaijan in 1919, but did not find time to action. On October 25, 1920, museum's status had been expanded and by the order of People's Commissariat of Education it was called "Museum of the Azerbaijan SSR".

Since the day of establishment museum has been engaged in demonstration and promotion of material heritage of Azerbaijan history in the expositions, as well as their collection, protection and publication. Over 300 thousand material monuments are being stored in the foundations and rich library composing of rare books.

Research works which were held at the museum improve the science of Azerbaijan history, additionally carries out its main task: forms face of the museum - its exposition. Results of various expeditions, valuable archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic, documentaries and things achieved after intense explorations, are displayed in the exposition and our people’s centuries-old culture and history of is witnessed.

At the museum, along with the 11 Foundations, are operated 6 scientific departments, including archeology, ethnography and numismatics scientific -fund departments, restoration labs and library.

"National Museum of Azerbaijan History - 95" book was conducted by the museum on the occasion of 95th anniversary of the National Museum of Azerbaijan History and 70th anniversary of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in Azerbaijan, Russian and English languages. The book compiles data about history of the museum, glorious way of museum in 95 years, outstanding professionals who worked here, permanent and temporary exhibitions of the museum. Designer of edition and author of the text is museum's director, Academician Naila Valikhanli.

Note that, scientific venture intends to hold solemn event in connection with the 95th anniversary of the National Museum of Azerbaijan History.
