Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography carried out field research in the territory of Gobustan region

In the current season the Sector of information technologies in the archeology of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography carried out field research in Gobustan region. As a result of archaeological and exploration in addition to the registered archaeological sites by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, were discovered about 100 new sites. Were taken CPS-coordinates of these monuments in the territory, held design and survey work, taken photos and carried out certification of monuments.

While detection of the monuments burial mounds, residential settlements, necropolis of pitcher burials, monuments and cave shelters were founded. From archaeological sites were taken terrestrial materials that will serve as the main indicator to determine the period of monuments.

Ad Hoc Group of Sector of information technologies in archeology of the Institute will prepare an electronic map of the territory. Discovered new monuments will be reflected on this map. Currently, work is continuing on the preparation of archaeological e-cards of Gobustan region.

In addition, in July this year the sector together with the archaeological expedition "Shamakhi-Agsu" of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography has continued the archaeological research of the fortress of Gulistan. The head of the sector of information technologies in the archeology of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography Fuad Huseynov, a member of the sector Sabuhi Huseynov, a photographer Elchin Hasanov were in the vault of Gulistan fortress, sizes and GPS coordinates were taken via digital photogrammetry, and prepared a three-dimensional model of the repository.

Photogrammetric survey in Gulistan fortress has been implemented for the first time in Azerbaijan archeology.
