Heavy bereavement for Azerbaijani scientific community

Notable geologist-scientist, veteran of II World War, individual retired of AR President, corresponding member of ANAS Farhad Soltan oglu Ahmadbayli passed away on the 92nd age of his life, November 14.

Farhad Ahmadbayli was born on February 12, 1923 in a noble family in Baku. Attended the II World War during 1941-1945. Graduated from Azerbaijan Institute of Industry department of geological intelligence in 1950.

Gained the title of PhD in geology-mineralogy in 1954, title of Dr. Geology-mineralogy in 1964, and academic title of Professor in 1972. Elected corresponding member of ANAS in 2001.

Began for labor activity at the Institute of Geology, F.Ahmadbayli worked in the posts of senior laboratory assistant, head researcher, lab chief and department chief. Since 2011 worked in the post of head reseacher to the Department of “Geotectonics and regional geology”.

Scientist contributed for Geology science and left deep impression. His research object was to study regional geology, geotectonics, neotectonics, geodynamics and seismic activity of the Caucasus.

F.Ahmadbayli was a prominent scientist in the fields of regional geology, geotectonics and neotectonics. Launch of complex scientific studies over neotechtonics for the first time linked to his name. He studied the major structural elements of the modern tectonic processes, and mutual ties of neotechtonic movements with oil-gas and seismicity. “Neotectonic map of Azerbaijan" developed and published by his method (1991). He is one of the designers of "Tectonic map of the Caspian Sea and its international border", "The seismic zoning map of Azerbaijan", "National Atlas of the Republic of Azerbaijan" and neotectonic geological maps and a number of other types of geological atlases. His latest research orientation was to elaborate geodynamic models of surface and deep geologic and tectonic evolution of the Earth's crust, and to define correlative dependencies among modern tectono-geodynamic, seismic and exogenous processes.

Living sparkle and rich life, F.Ahmadbayli was the author of 145 academic works, including 12 maps and atlases, 5 monographs. His papers are cited on the popular scientific journals. Delivered lectures in many international conferences and symposiums, also has been participant of the international grant projects (STCU, SCOPES, CNRS).

Scientist supervised for 2 doctors of science and 6 PhDs. He was a member of Defense Council attached to ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics.

Farhad Ahmadbayli’s memory will live in the hearts of people who knew him.

Allah rahmat elesin!
