"Role of environmental assessment of the agricultural lands in development of regions and maintaining the ecological balance" conference was held at Hyatt Regency hotel on December 15.

Event co-organized by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Department of Agrarian Sciences of ANAS, Institute of Soil Erosion and Irrigation and Azerbaijan Society of Soil Scientists.

In a conference Academician-secretary of the Department of Agrarian Sciences of ANAS, Academician Garib Mammadov made speech on establishment history of agrarian policy in the republic, founder of contemporary independent state, national leader Heydar Aliyev’s merits in this area, including works done by President Ilham Aliyev in food security and social-economic development of the regions. He also stressed out the significance of the documents on the agriculture signed by national leader Heydar Aliyev and AR President Ilham Aliyev.

Bringing to mind the establishment of the Agrarian Department by the Order of President “On the changes and amendments to the Charter of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences” dated January 17, 2011, G. Mammadov noted that, head of a state has put several vital tasks before agrarian science.

Academician also spoke about realized measures in the republic for development of agriculture, and obtained achievements. Making speech on the role of environmental assessment of the agricultural lands in development of regions and maintaining the ecological balance, scientist stated that, while ecological assessment it is necessary to take into account soil pollution with harmful plants, land productivity and ecological factors which do not allow the use of arable lands, besides important diagnostic signs such as amount of land humus, granulometric composition, arable layer structure, and density of the soil.

In the event, chief of Innovation Department of ANAS Presidium, PhD in agrarian sciences Vugar Babayev, Director of the Institute of Genetic Resources corresponding member of ANAS Zeynal Alakperov, acting Director of the Institute of Soil Elm and Agro chemistry Dr. Agrarian sciences Alovsat Guliyev, Deputy Director for Science of the Institute of Erosion and Irrigation PhD in agrarian sciences Zakir Aliyev and other scientists reported and held discussions.
