Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

According to the calls of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev a number of significant studies are being conducted in the scientific research institutions of ANAS related to Western Azerbaijan.     

For this reason, by the decision of the Presidium of ANAS at the expense of internal capabilities the Department of “History of Western Azerbaijan” was established in the Institute of History named after A. A. Bakikhanov, Department of “Western Azerbaijan Folklore” in the Institute of Folklore and Department of “Toponymy” in the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi. Fundamental research has been carried out by those departments in a short period of time, essential results have been obtained and books have been published in the direction of studying and promoting rich historical and cultural heritage created by our compatriots in Western Azerbaijan. At the same time, the preparation of the dictionary of "Western Azerbaijan Encyclopedia" was completed.  

Recently by the decision of the Presidium of ANAS the Western Azerbaijan and Karabakh Manuscripts Research Department was also established in the Institute of Manuscripts at the expense of internal capabilities. The employees of the new department will be engaged in collecting and systemizing manuscripts of works of poets and writers who lived and worked in Western Azerbaijan and Karabakh, compilation and publication issues and studying the life and creativity of the well-known figures from these regions.
