One of the issues discussed at the next meeting of the Presidium of ANAS was the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the “Elm” (“Science”) Publishing House of ANAS.

The Director of the “Elm” Publishing House, PhD in Philology Sabuhi Gahramanov spoke on the matter. It was noted that the “Elm” Publishing House will mark its 100th anniversary in September 2025.

It was emphasized that one of the main goals in establishing the Azerbaijan Society of Research and Investigation was the publication of research results and the establishment of scientific and research press bodies. On the eve of the First Turkological Congress, held in Baku, the publication of numerous works on Azerbaijani studies was planned, which created the need for centralizing editorial and publishing activities and establishing a unified publishing house. For this purpose, the issue on the establishment of the Publishing House was discussed at the meeting of the Presidium of the Central Council of the Society on September 23, 1925, and the leadership of its activities was entrusted to the Chairman of the Editorial and Publishing Council, Iosif Feodorovich Blinov, and Professor Bakir Chobanzade. 

During its 100 years of activity, the publishing house has published numerous monographs, selected works, multi-volume publications, scientific journals, translated editions, educational literature, popular science books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, reference collections, and bibliographies with the aim of conveying various scientific research and innovations to broad population. These publications, which have made an invaluable contribution to book culture of Azerbaijan, have ensured the analysis of scientific research results and the tracking of current trends in this field, playing an irreplaceable role in the formation and development of the scientific environment.

At present, the Publishing House is successfully operating in line with modern academic publishing principles, aiming at dissemination of scientific knowledge and the production of high-quality publications. In recent years, the “Elm” Publishing House has also joined the modernization and development process, within the framework of reforms implemented at the Academy under the leadership of Academician Isa Habibbeyli.  As a result of the attention and care provided by the Academy leadership, the institution’s activities meet modern standards.

The “Elm” Publishing House has expanded its cooperation with the European Association of Science Editors (EASE), resulting in the establishment of the Azerbaijan section under EASE. The director of the Publishing House, Sabuhi Gahramanov was appointed as the Chairman of this section. The active work of the Azerbaijan section was highly appreciated by EASE, and the Chairman of the section S. Gahramanov was elected as a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

It was noted that, during its 100 years of rich history, the publishing house has made significant contributions to the wide dissemination of scientific knowledge and the development of book culture in our republic and continues to successfully pursue these high goals today. This notable anniversary is not only an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the “Elm” Publishing House but also to highlight its important role in the development of Azerbaijani science and ANAS.

Considering these points, a corresponding decision was made by the Presidium.
