Discussion of the joint international scientific project on the topic “Nizami Ganjavi and Shota Rustaveli in Literature and Art”

A discussion of the joint international scientific project of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature titled “Nizami Ganjavi and Shota Rustaveli in Literature and Art” was held at the Presidium of ANAS. The event was attended by staff members from the Presidium administration of ANAS, the Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature, the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature, and the Institute of Architecture and Art.

The President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli spoke about the development of cooperation with the Georgian Academy of Sciences and the scientific and literary relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, highlighting their importance. He particularly emphasized the high level of scientific cooperation between the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature and the Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature in recent years. Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the first stage of the joint project on the topic “Nizami Ganjavi and Shota Rustaveli” had been successfully completed. He mentioned that the monograph written as a result of the research was published not only in Azerbaijani and Georgian but also was released in English in Cambridge. Regarding the second stage of the project titled “Nizami Ganjavi and Shota Rustaveli in Literature and Art,” the head of the Academy underlined that it would cover not only literature but also the fields of art. He said that it would be appropriate to involve not only the Institute of Literature in the next research, but also the employees of the Institute of Architecture and Art of ANAS, the Nizami Studies Center of the Ganja Division of ANAS, and the “Academy Museum” under the Presidium administration. He also gave his recommendations regarding the preparation of materials covering various scientific fields.

Then, Professor Irma Ratiani, Director of the Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature, delivered a speech, saying that the first stage had been successfully completed and had yielded significant scientific results. She spoke about the objectives, purpose, directions, and expected outcomes of the next stage of the joint project, titled “Nizami Ganjavi and Shota Rustaveli in Literature and Art.” Stressing the scientific value of the project, Professor Irma Ratiani highlighted that it would result in a brilliant monographic research work in two parts and noted that the final, refined version of the work is planned to be published in English in Cambridge.

During the discussion, corresponding member of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Architecture and Art of ANAS, Ertegin Salamzade, Deputy Director, PhD in Art Studies, Khazar Zeynalov, Deputy Director of the Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature, Professor Maka Elbakidze, as well as staff members of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature-Doctor of Philology Imamverdi Hamidov, PhD in Philology Aygun Baghirli, PhD in Philology Zahra Allahverdiyeva, and others expressed their thoughts and opinions on the topic and shared their suggestions.

At the end, President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli made relevant proposals regarding the development of the project’s plan-prospectus, the selection of the team of authors, and the identification of the directions on the topic. He also gave his instructions and recommendations. The Academician emphasized that the realization of joint project “Nizami Ganjavi and Shota Rustaveli in Literature and Art” would open a new page in Azerbaijani-Georgian scientific relations.
