On June 5, the presentation of the book titled “150 ilin söhbəti (“A 150-Year Conversation”) by writer and Honored Journalist Natig Mammadli took place at the “Writer’s House”.
The book was published by the Azerbaijan State Publishing House on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Azerbaijani national press.
The Executive Director of the “Writer’s House” Literature Support Fund Shafag Mehraliyeva gave information about the book. She said that over the past 150 years, journalism as a field of science has gone through significant development. “The rapid development of information technologies has also had a serious impact on the media field. The book is published with the support of BP and aims to study the history of the national press, modern journalistic thought of Azerbaijan. It includes the author’s research conducted over thirty years, essays, articles, interviews, as well as literary works,” added Shafag Mehraliyeva.
The scientific editor of the book, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbeyli underlined that the book also reflects the attention and care shown by President Ilham Aliyev and National Leader Heydar Aliyev towards the media.
“This year, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on celebrating the 150th anniversary of the national press of Azerbaijan at the highest level. When we look at the title of the book, it becomes clear that it is written in the style of a “conversation.” This is an original scientific-publicist work dedicated to the history of the press. The writer's socio-political views are clearly reflected throughout the book, yet there is no repetition. The author himself notes that the texts are written in the first person, for this reason, the texts can be considered as a kind of monologue. The 'Preface' seems to have become an inseparable part of the book. This can be considered as an example of a different approach to the work. His creativity encompasses a new realism.”-said Academician Isa Habibbeyli.
The author of the “Preface,” Head of the Department of History of National Press at Baku State University, Professor Jahangir Mammadli, emphasized that the book is a contribution to the 150th anniversary of the national press. The main theme of the book is the protection of our national and spiritual values, the restoration of historical memory, the promotion of statehood ideals, and the reflection of the modern development trends of Azerbaijani journalism.
The reviewers of the book, Executive Director of the Media Development Agency Ahmad Ismayilov and Chairman of the Press Council Rashad Majid said that the book, as a publicist collection, is intended for university students interested in the history of socio-political and philosophical thought in Azerbaijan, as well as for a wide readership.
In his speech, BP Vice President for Communications and External Affairs in the Caspian region Bakhtiyar Aslanbeyli spoke about the role of the press as a bridge between institutions and society.
Highly praising the publication, honored journalist and professor Gulu Maharramli noted that the book is a worthy bearer of national and spiritual values and narrates the history of the press.
Then, the author of the book, Honored Journalist Natig Mammadli expressed his gratitude to the organizers and participants of the event and noted that for the first time, this book includes articles related to the Shusha Global Forums and the role of the media in the Patriotic War.
At the end, the author signed books for the readers.
