Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

A regular meeting of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) was held.

The event was attended by ANAS President Academician Isa Habibbayli, members of the Presidium, heads of departments of the Presidium’s administrative office, directors of scientific institutions and organizations, and other relevant officials.

The meeting was opened with introductory remarks by Academician Isa Habibbayli, who outlined the agenda.

The first issue discussed was the approval of dissertation topics and academic supervisors for doctoral candidates admitted to Doctor of Philosophy programs at ANAS for 2025.

By decision of the Presidium, the dissertation topics and academic supervisors of the doctoral candidates admitted to these programs for 2025 were approved.

The meeting also announced the results of the competition for young researchers on “Opportunities for the Use of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies in the Humanities and Social Sciences,” held as part of events marking the 80th anniversary of ANAS.

Academician Isa Habibbayli said the main aim of the decision was to reveal the creative potential of young scientists, to promote the application of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in the humanities and social sciences, and to ensure that scientific activity develops in line with modern challenges.

Next, the results were presented by Sərxan Xavəri, Head of the Science and Education Department and Doctor of Philological Sciences. He noted that a commission had been established to organize the competition in accordance with the Presidium decision, an announcement about the competition had been posted on the official ANAS website, submitted articles were evaluated by the commission based on established criteria, and the competition results were finalized.

According to the results, Ləman Rüstəmli, an employee of the Institute of Architecture and Art of ANAS, won first place. Orxan Isayev, an employee of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi of ANAS, and Röya Mirzabeyova, an employee of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Academician Ziya Bunyadov of ANAS, took second place. Third place was shared by Cahandar Cabarov, a full-time doctoral student at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of ANAS, Ilahə Əsədzadə, an employee of the Ganja Branch of ANAS, and Rüzgar Camal, an employee of the Nakhchivan Branch of ANAS. In addition, 13 participants received incentive awards.

By decision of the Presidium, the competition winners were awarded cash prizes and diplomas.

The meeting also adopted a decision to establish a Department of Digital Sociology and Sociological Research within the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of ANAS, based on the existing Department of Sociology, using internal resources and staff positions.

A decision regarding the 75th birthday anniversary of ANAS Corresponding Member Elshad Gurbanov was also adopted. Other items on the agenda were also considered at the Presidium meeting.

At the meeting, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev, Professor Ilham Mammadzadeh, Doctor of Philological Sciences Hikmat Quliyev, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology Sabuhi Qahramanov, and others spoke and shared their views and proposals on the discussed issues.
