President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Academician Isa Habibbeyli, participated and delivered a speech at the Founding Conference of the International Union of Academies, held in Athens, the capital of Greece, on February 9–11, 2026.
At the plenary session of the Founding Conference, following the opening address by President of the Academy of Athens, Academician Nikiforos Diamandouros, former President of the Hellenic Republic and Honorary Professor of the University of Athens, Prokopios Pavlopoulos, delivered a report titled “Myth and Reality in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
In addition, reports were presented and discussions held at the plenary session on the topics of “Artificial Intelligence, Human Health and Intelligence,” “Collective and Economic Perspectives in Artificial Intelligence,” “Innovation and Competitiveness: The Development and Future of the European Economy,” “Digital Archaeology and the Human Factor,” and “Climate Change in the Anthropocene and the Resilience of Cultural Heritage in the Mediterranean Basin.”
At the Founding Conference of the International Union of Academies, held on February 10, 2026, in the Neoclassical Hall of the Academy of Athens, Vice-President of the Academy of Athens, Academician Christos Zerefos, was elected Chair of the Board of the International Union of Academies.
During the meeting, full members and honorary members of the International Union of Academies were elected from academies of sciences representing 41 countries, and candidates for membership were determined. The Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was elected among the honorary members of the International Union of Academies.
As part of the visit, ANAS President Academician Isa Habibbeyli met with President of the Turkish Academy of Sciences, Professor Muzaffer Şeker, to discuss issues of mutual cooperation and upcoming events related to the First Turkology Congress. He also held meetings with President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Professor Heinz Faßmann, and Vice-President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Wanda Lamm.
Participants of the Founding Conference of the International Union of Academies also familiarized themselves with Greece’s ancient historical monuments and classical cultural heritage.
