A century ago, during the First Turkology Congress held in Baku, Turkologist scholars from various countries gathered to conduct extensive discussions on a common alphabet, literature, culture, history, and other key areas, giving a strong impetus to the development of Turkology as a field of study. In the following years, research in this area was further expanded, new academic directions were formed, and significant results were achieved.

This was stated by Celile Ören Ökten, Deputy Minister of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye, Associate Professor, during her speech at the international scientific conference titled “Founders and Lessons of the First Turkology Congress: History and Modernity,” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkology Congress.

She conveyed greetings to the participants on behalf of Türkiye’s Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin and spoke about the historical significance of the Congress.

Celile Ören Ökten emphasized that commemorating the cherished memories of the ideologists, organizers, and participants of the First Turkology Congress in the same historic hall a hundred years later is an extremely significant event for the entire Turkic world. The Deputy Minister noted that the development and broad dissemination of academic knowledge play an important role in shaping intellectually developed individuals and, as a whole, intellectual societies. She expressed her deep gratitude to the organizers of the event for creating the conditions that enabled numerous scholars and researchers from different countries to come together.
