Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Academician Isa Habibbeyli, met with Professor Najeeba Arif, Chairperson of the Pakistan Academy of Letters.

During the meeting held at the Presidium of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli stated that Pakistan has always been a friendly and brotherly country to Azerbaijan and that, thanks to the close relations between the heads of state of the two countries in recent years, broad cooperation has been established and developed in all areas, including science.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that, as a result of scientific cooperation, research on Pakistani literature is being conducted at the Academy, and the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature of ANAS has translated Muhammad Iqbal’s Selected Works into Azerbaijani. He also highlighted that the epic Kitabi-Dada Gorgud and his own book entitled The Great Azerbaijani Poet Nizami Ganjavi have been translated into Urdu and presented in Pakistan. He noted that the works of Sultan Bahu have also been translated by the Institute of Literature and are currently being prepared for publication.

In addition, he emphasized that the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences maintains extensive relations with the Pakistan Academy of Letters, Government College University Lahore, the MUSLIM Institute, the University of Sindh, and other academic institutions. He noted that the Pakistan Literature Center is currently operating at the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature of ANAS, while the Azerbaijan Literature Center is operating at Government College University Lahore.

The President of ANAS proposed holding a joint event within the framework of the 12th Baku International Book Fair, which will be held in October this year with the participation of Pakistan.

Speaking afterwards, Professor Najeeba Arif, Chairperson of the Pakistan Academy of Letters, expressed her gratitude for the warm hospitality and satisfaction with the development of scientific and literary relations between the two countries. She positively assessed the proposal to hold a joint event within the framework of the 12th Baku International Book Fair, noting that joint events contribute to deepening and expanding scientific relations. Professor Najeeba Arif noted that translation work on the history of Azerbaijani literature is continuing at the Pakistan Academy of Letters.

Following the speeches, commemorative gifts were presented.
