Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Academician Isa Habibbeyli, met with a delegation of the Hong Kong Core Academy led by Academician Di Zhang, President of the Hong Kong Core Academy, who is visiting Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the meeting held at the Main Building of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that Azerbaijan-China relations have risen to the level of strategic partnership in recent years and that political, economic, scientific, and cultural ties between the two countries have expanded.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that ANAS attaches particular importance to relations with China’s academic institutions. He stated that, in recent years, the National Academy of Sciences has maintained close cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Hebei Academy of Social Sciences, Hong Kong Core Academy, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Hebei Normal University, and other academic institutions in China. He also noted that the China Cultural Center operates at the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature of ANAS.

Recalling his visits to China, as well as to the Hong Kong Core Academy, the head of ANAS congratulated Professor Di Zhang on his election as President of the Hong Kong Core Academy and stated that today’s meeting would contribute to the further development of scientific relations between the two academies.

In turn, Professor Di Zhang expressed his gratitude for the sincere hospitality and noted that the high level of interstate relations between Azerbaijan and China creates broad opportunities for joint scientific cooperation. He emphasized the importance of developing scientific ties in new areas.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on prospects for further strengthening relations between Azerbaijani and Chinese scholars, implementing joint scientific projects and research, organizing scientific events, publishing scientific works, and cooperation in other areas.

Subsequently, Professor Di Zhang presented the diploma and certificate confirming full membership in the Hong Kong Core Academy to Academician Arif Hashimov, Academician-Secretary of ANAS.

The delegation of the Hong Kong Core Academy also visited Gabala District under the leadership of President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli. The guests visited the Gabala Archaeological Center and became acquainted on site with the archaeological excavations being carried out in the district. The heads of the Gabala archaeological expeditions, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Gafar Jabiyev, and PhD in History Ceyhun Eminli, provided detailed information about the excavations conducted there and the centuries-old history of the material cultural artifacts discovered during the excavations.

The Chinese delegation also visited the monastery in Nic, Gabala District.

The events were also attended by Professor Li Lei, Member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong Core Academy; Professor Raymond J. Wu, Deputy Executive Secretary-General of the Academy; and Liu Mei, a staff member of the Academy.
