Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

It was published two volumes of the main researcher of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Z.M.Bunyadov of ANAS Aydin Abi Aydin "Encyclopedic dictionary of personal names”. The dictionary gives personal names in Turkish, Azerbaijani, Persian and Arabic languages and their definitions.

Unlike previous dictionaries this dictionary is more comprehensive and detailed. The book also reflected the widespread introduction and a list of sources used.

In the preface the author tells about the history and stages of Turkic personal names. The book provides information about the influence of other languages on a variety of the Turkic peoples, the territory of the spread of the Turkic names, conditions and reasons for the name in the naming of the Turkic peoples.

The dictionary indicates the value, origin, as well as correct and distorted form of names.

In the dictionary the names of the Turks of Anatolia, Central Asia, etc. were given in accordance with the pronunciation. And the same names used in all Turkic peoples are given mainly in the Azerbaijani language.
