Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Prominent scientist in the field of chemical science, Honored Scientist, Academician Akif Hamid oglu Azizov passed away on 8 July 2016 at age of 89.

Akif Azizov was born on November 2, 1943 in the village of Umudlu of Agdara region. In 1960 he entered to the chemistry faculty of Azerbaijan State University, then was sent to the Moscow State University named after Lomonosov.

In 1971 A.Azizov defended his Ph.D in Chemistry, 1991-Doctor of Science, and in 1992-the title of professor. In 2001 he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS, and in 2014 - active member of ANAS.

After finishing post graduate, he began to research activities at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes AAS, was occupided post of junior researcher, senior researcher, head of laboratory, head of the department, and in the years 1988-2014-Deputy Director for Science. Along with this A.Azizov operated as chairman of the Expert Council for Chemistry of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Director of the Institute of polymer materials, as well as a senior fellow at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes.

A.Azizov was a renowned scholar in the field of oil chemistry, catalysis and Macromolecular Chemistry. The main areas of his scientific activity are the use of metal and organometallic catalysts in petrochemical synthesis, development of catalytic systems for the polymerization and oligomerization processes, etc.

The scientist is the author of over 600 scientific and journalistic publications, including 73 patents, 20 monographs and books. 350 of his scientific works published abroad.

Under the leadership of A.Azizov defended 15 PhD, 3 doctors of sciences.

A.Azizov was a foreign member of several scientific councils and communities in the field of chemistry, including the Academic Council on the chemistry of mineral and renewable raw materials processed carbonaceous Russian Academy of Sciences; member of the New York Academy of Sciences and the American Chemical Society, the Scientific and Technical Council of the refining of the State Oil Company, the Science Foundation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the expert committee of the joint Science Foundation of SOCAR and ANAS.

Chemister was awarded the Diploma of I degree of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, the medal "For Valiant Labor" Individual grants "Soros", Honorary Diploma of ANAS, the honorary title "Honored worker of Azerbaijan science" by media and the Bureau of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan was awarded the Honorary Diploma " authoritative intelligent people ", Diploma of the first degree of the first republican competition in the field of inventions, by the decision of the Commission on the award" European publishing house "Azerbaijan was awarded a gold medal" The best patriot research scientist".
