Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

In accordance with the development of Information-Communication Technologies in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Institute of Botany of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences is being taken steps to improve data on plant diversity by means of ICT.

In order to digitize and be entered into database the valuable types of Herbarium, Institute of Botany of ANAS and Andrew W. Mellon Foundation (U.S.) signed Agreement of Cooperation and institute has been joined the Global Plants Initiative Foundation.

Note that, Herbarium fund reserves rich herbarium collection composed of 600.000 copies of plant samples in the territory of Azerbaijan.

Global Plants Initiative is an international herbarium cooperation which aims to create a global database of coordinated plant information and drawings. At present, more than 70 countries and more than 260 herbariums include this cooperation, about 2 140 000 describes and related objects are stored in the database.
