Former president of ANAS acad. Mahmud Karimov’s 65

Notable scholar, ANAS President acad. Mahmud Karimov’s 65.   

Mahmud Karimov was born in Irevan on October 18, 1948. Moved to Baku with family. After finishing secondary school here, entered the Azerbaijan State University division of physics in 1966-1971. Studied at post-graduate course of Radiation Researches Sector of Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences.   

After completing military service, began for labor activity as an engineer at Institute of Physics of Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences in 1973. Worked junior, senior scientific worker, academic secretary and laboratory head at Radiation Researches Sector of Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences during 1974-1984, was defined director of the same Sector in 1984-2001. Taking the post of ANAS President since 2001, Mahmud Karimov worked here till the end of his life.  

Defended PhD thesis on physics-math in 1979, doctoral in 1989, earned the title of professor in 2000. Elected active member of ANAS in 2001.  

His research object was radiation physics, informatics, and dielectrics physics. Held investigations in the field of nuclear and radiation privacy. He was the member of commissions of CIS countries and the Turkic-speaking countries for the purpose of peaceful use of atomic energy. Also was engaged in staff training and being author of almost 200 papers. As a chairman of Republican Council for Scientific Research Organization and Coordination, he contributed to effective coordination and organization process in the highest governmental bodies and schools.   

Acad. Mahmud Karimov was awarded for his customs in the development of Azerbaijan science and deserved to “Shohrat” Order of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Passed away on February 10, 2013.

His memory will always live in the hearts of people who knew him.
