Found the oldest mold of the Caucasus at Galaeri settlement

In May-June of 2017, expeditionary group under deputy director for scientific issues of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, doctor of historical sciences Najaf Museibli, continued archaeological excavations in Galaeri settlement, in Gabala, dated to IV millennium BC.

The results of the research showed that, the given settlement, which belongs to the archaeological culture of Leylatepe, is one of the historical monuments testifying to the existence of close ties with the ancient civilizations of the Near East, especially Eastern Anatolia, and mass migration from these regions to the territory of Azerbaijan in the first half of the IV millennium before our Era.

During the last excavations for the first time in Galaeri, a large hole was discovered, inside of which a second shallow slit was drilled. In addition, the oldest in the Caucasus foundry mold, designed for the production of metal ingots, was identified. The discovery of this foundry indicates that even 6,000 years ago, residents of Galaeri, developed metallurgy and delivered manufactured bars supposedly to the Middle East and were engaged in metal trading.

Also during the excavations were found children's graves in ceramic jugs, a pottery furnace, thousands of fragments of earthenware, the remains of a lamp, tools made from various kinds of stones and bones, and other objects.
