Every year August 1 annually celebrates the Day of Azerbaijani Alphabet and Day of Azerbaijani language by decree No 552, dated August 9, 2001, signed by national leader Heydar Aliyev.

The formation of language policy in the republic, improvement of the Azerbaijani language as a state language and the role of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the international arena as the indicator of national solidarity are transformed into communication tools of the world's Azerbaijanis. The great leader has taken very important steps towards the purification and enrichment of our native language, which is the main symbol of the national identity of the Azerbaijani people and has substantiated documents for the development and protection of the Azerbaijani language.

Determination of the Azerbaijani language as the state language in the Constitution of the independent Azerbaijan adopted in 1995 by the nation-wide voting and its promotion to the status of official state language is one of the most important events in our national statehood history. Our Mother tongue, one of the main attributes of our national identity and historical identity, has earned the highest value.

On Approval of the State Program on the Use of Azerbaijani in the Compliance with Time Requirements in Terms of Globalization and the Development of Linguistics in the Country, dated April 12, 2004, No 56 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev "On Mass Media Publishing in Azerbaijani Language" 9 April 2013 According to the Order No. 2837 of the year, the publication of new Azerbaijani alphabet with Latin graphics, the use of textbooks, scientific works, dictionaries and fiction literature, the use of Azerbaijani language in accordance with the requirements of time in the context of globalization and substantial improvement of linguistic studies in the country, Along with its enrichment, was also significant in terms of linguistic development. All these documents and the work done in this direction are the manifestation of great care and attention shown by the head of our country in the development of our mother tongue.
