Corresponding member of ANAS Ibrahim Azizov is 70

On August 5, the prominent biologist of Azerbaijan, the laboratory director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, laureate of "Glory", correspondent member of ANAS Ibrahim Azizov is 70.

Ibrahim Azizov was born on August 5, 1947 in Gargay village of Zagatala region. After receiving his first education at the Garqay village school, he graduated with honors from Zagatala Agricultural Technical College, then the Azerbaijan State University.

In 1971, he taught biology and chemistry at secondary schools in Gandah and Mosul villages of Zagatala region.

In 1972, he studied the photochemical activity of chloroplasts in the ontogenesis of different wheat varieties, which differed from the scientist's productivity in the post graduate school of the Institute of Botany of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences on "Plant Physiology". He performed his research at the Department of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry headed by academician Jalal Aliyev at the ET Institute of Agriculture.

In 1981, under the direction of academician Jalal Aliyev, he defended his dissertation on the theme "The ability of photosynthesis of chloroplasts on ontogenesis of various productive wheat" and received a Ph.D. in biological sciences on the specialty "Plant Physiology". In 1994, he defended his dissertation on the theme "Activity of photochemical reactions in chloroplasts separated from the various wheat varieties due to productivity and cultivation condition" and received a Ph.D. in biological sciences. In 2001 he was elected Corresponding Member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. In 2017 he was awarded the title of professor by the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Ibrahim Azizov is a well-known specialist in the field of photosynthesis physiology. His scientific activity is devoted to the study of photosynthesis ability of various wheat genotypes. He has studied the effects of unfavorable environment factors, including high temperature, drought and salinity, on chloroplasts and productivity of different wheat genotypes. The scientist's recent research on biological, biochemical and biotechnological methods has led to new data on clarifying the mechanism of tolerance in higher plants and single-celled algae. In addition, a number of plant-derived radioprotective physiologically active substances were obtained in the study conducted by the Institute of Radiation Probes of the AMEA, which were included in the plant and animal organism and investigated their invasive properties.

Under the leadership of Ibrahim Azizov, international projects have been implemented on "Development of Absheron Oil and Petroleum Polluted Bioremediation Methods", "New Methods for Cleaning Polluted Polluted Land in Ganja" and a new, ecologically clean and economically viable method of polluted soil clean-up, Applied.

I.Azizov is the author of 241 scientific works, including 2 monographs. Under the guidance of the scientist, seven PhDs have been prepared.

He is an academic secretary of the Department of Biology and Medical Sciences in 2001-2016, chairman of the Expert Council on Biological Sciences of the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2011-2016.

Ibrahim Azizov is a member of the Editorial Board of the Ukrainian Genetics and Selection Society, Radiobiologists' Society, "Factors for the Experimental Evolution of Organisms."

The scientist's scientific-creative activity is organically linked to pedagogical activity. He has been teaching at the Faculty of Biology of Baku State University since 1985 and actively participates in the development of young cadres.

For his achievements in science he was awarded the Order of Glory in 2005.

We congratulate great scientist on the occasion of his 70th jubilee, wish him robust health and success in his life.
