President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva were acquainted with material culture samples, research progress and results revealed during archeological researches at Gegali necropolis in Demirchi village during their visit to Shamakhi region on October 2. The project of the Museum of Archeological-Ethnographic Museum of Demirci was also presented to President Ilham Aliyev.

It should be noted that necropolis of 1.5 hectares was revealed as a result of the research carried out by the employees of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography at the 4th kilometer of Demirci-Lahij Road in the area called Gegali Yayla. During the excavations led by the head of Shamakhi-Aghsu Archeological Expedition Institute, PhD in History Akif Guliyev, gold and silver jewelry, beads, coins and other material and cultural remains were discovered. 18 excavations were opened during excavations at the Necropolis this year.

During the August-September study, the remains of the castle walls and settlements were found near the necropolis. During the researches carried out inside the fortress, pottery samples, human skeletons, and animal bones belong to the V-XIII centuries. Based on the discovered material and cultural examples, it has been established that this dwelling is a place of refuge for a long time.

The organization of the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum of Demirci will give a great impetus to the development of tourism potential of our country and will contribute to the expansion of the tourism infrastructure of the Shirvan region, in particular the Shamakhi region.
