Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On October 5, Vagif Abbasov, the prominent chemist of Azerbaijan, the winner of the Glory Award, the Director of the Petrochemical Processes Institute is 65 years old.

Vagif Abbasov was born on October 5, 1952 in Jamilly village of Terter region. In 1973 he graduated from Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute. In 1978 he received a PhD in chemistry, in 1991 he obtained a Doctor of science and in 1992 he became as Professor. In 2001 elected Corresponding member of ANAS, a full member in 2014.

V.Abbasov started his career as a chemistry teacher at a secondary school. In 1973, he was admitted to postgraduate study at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes (IPP) named after Academician Y.Mammadaliyev. In 1984 he worked as laboratory director at IPP, in 2006 he worked as the head of department and in 2007-2008 he was deputy director. Since 2011 he has been working at the IPP as a director and head of department.

The main direction of his scientific activity is the development of scientific bases of the methods and processes of the production of metal complexes of nitro compounds, nitric acid salts, high-molecular amines, amine complexes, multifunctional antistatic additives, inhibitors, inhibitors-bactericides, paraffin and saline inhibitors, preservative fluids and lubricants and so on.

V.Abbasov, Chairman of the Scientific Council of IPP, Chairman of the Dissertation Council at IPP, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of "Petrochemical and Petroleum Processes" magazine, co-founder and editor-in-chief of "Chemistry at school" scientific-methodical magazine.

He is a member of scientific, republican, international and many foreign scientific organizations.  Acting member of the International Academy of Ecology and Natural Resources named after V.Altunin, active member of the European Academy of Natural Sciences, member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, academician of the International Academy of Sciences of Turkish World Studies.

The results of V.Abbasov's scientific researches are reflected in more than 1,300 scientific papers, including 54 books, monographs, textbooks and textbooks, as well as 90 publicist works (including 12 books), 52 patents and copyrights. 11 doctors of sciences and 34 PhDs have been trained under the guidance of the academician.

V.Abbasov received a medal named after academician Y.Mammadaliyev, Honorary orders of ANAS, honorary title of "Honored Teacher of Azerbaijan", "Glory" order, "Science and Technology Award" by the Organization of Islamic Economic Cooperation, "The Gold Gold Knight" star, the Atatürk International Award and etc.
