Deputy Director for Scientific Work of ANAS Shamakhin Astrophysical Observatory after N.Tusi, PhD in Physics and Mathematics Elchin Babayev held a press conference on the processes taking place on the Sun and a geomagnetic storm.
E.Babayev said that, there was a storm of category G1 and on October 25-a storm of G2 category. He brought to attention that, over the past 11 years, such a rare natural phenomenon occurred 1-2 times on October 24.
The scientist noted that, these geomagnetic storms are considered regularly recurring natural phenomena of the middle level. They negatively affect the health of some people. But, in general, the human body is able to adapt to changes in cosmic air, as well as to changes in meteorological conditions.
E.Babayev noted that, the main reason for the occurrence of geomagnetic disturbances was the influence of a high-speed solar plasma wind originating from a large coronal hole existing on the surface of the Sun.
He stressed that, recently sunspots began to be observed on the surface of the Sun, the number of which is 23 now. Typically, near such spots, flares and coronal plasma masses are observed, leading to the occurrence of geomagnetic storms.
